Home Additions questions
We've outgrown the house but don't want to move. Can an addition give us the room we need?
Often, yes. We look at the lot, where the addition could go and how it connects to the rooms you have. Then we write a scope and estimate for the space you need.
I'm worried an addition will look tacked on. How do you make it match?
Matching starts with the roofline and exterior details, then carries inside. We plan drywall texture, trim, flooring and hardware to blend with the existing house.
Our addition needs a bathroom. Can you tie it into the existing plumbing?
Yes. Plumbing rough-in, top-out and finish are handled as part of our addition projects. We look at where your current lines run during the site walk.
Will the new room have enough power, or does my panel need an upgrade?
We check your electrical panel during the site walk. If the addition needs more capacity, panel work goes into the scope as part of the project.
How does the new foundation connect to the old one?
The addition gets its own foundation, tied into the existing structure as your plans call for. Foundation and concrete work is part of our addition projects.
We'd like a bedroom suite for my mom. Is that a common kind of addition?
Yes. A bedroom with its own bathroom is a very common addition. We talk through access, layout and how it connects to the main house before writing a scope.
Can we keep living in the house while the addition goes up?
Many families do. Most of the work happens outside the existing rooms until the connection point opens up, and we talk through that stage with you ahead of time.
My lot's kinda narrow. Is building up an option?
It can be. A second-story addition depends on the existing structure and what your plans and engineering show. We look at it during the site walk and talk through options.
Does an addition need plans before you can give me a number?
We can walk the site and talk about ideas first. For a written scope and estimate, drawings help a lot, since they show size, structure and connections.
